Racialized Students Support Group

Student Counselling, Health & Well-being offers a drop-in support group to York’s Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Colour (BIPOC) student community. The Racialized Students Support Group is a group co-facilitated by two racialized counsellors at SCHW and the Traditional Knowledge Keeper from The Centre for Aboriginal Student Services (CASS). The drop-in group provides a safe space for BIPOC students to reflect on their identities, experiences, and challenges and to build community. A focus of the group will be placed on processing and healing from racial trauma.

SCHW counsellors who identify as part of the LGBTQ2S+ community facilitate this group and create a safe and positive space where stories can be shared and support given. Topics covered include coming out, gender and sexuality, finding safe spaces on campus/during COVID-19, managing stress, connecting with broader community supports, and self-care.
