International Students

The School of the Arts, Media, Performance and Design (AMPD) at York University is a place of creativity, diversity and stimulation. We welcome students from around the world to join us in the pursuit of artistic and scholarly excellence.

We understand that transitioning into a new environment can be slightly daunting — and we’re here to help every step of the way!

International students who study at AMPD enjoy many opportunities. You will work with leading performers, artists and scholars. You will thrive at our vibrant campus, which is located in the heart of Metropolitan Toronto, Canada’s cultural – and multicultural – capital. On and off campus, you’ll have unparalleled opportunities to enrich your learning experience by exploring, experiencing and contributing to the city’s rich, diverse arts scene. Throughout your studies, we will help you make the most of your international experience.

Support Services

York University offers a wide variety of social and academic services and programs to support international students.

York International helps international students with orientation, housing, immigration, employment and academic student services and counseling advice. The International Peer Mentor Program helps ease the transition to life in Toronto and at York by connecting new international students with supportive upper-year students with international experience. Events and activities throughout the year help newcomers to build a social network and a community of friends from around the world.

The York University Language Institute (YUELI) offers programs to improve English language skills for academic and professional purposes.

A number of scholarships and bursaries are available to international students who meet the requirements.
