Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

What is Academic Orientation?

Academic Orientation introduces you to your program at York University. It allows you to mix and mingle with fellow peers in your program, hear details on your program requirements, and meet faulty members and staff in your program department.

Is Academic Orientation different then Social Orientation?

Yes! Social Orientation is a great way to meet friends and participate in events organized for incoming York University students. Academic Orientation focuses on program details and student services available to you as a York U student.

I’m a Transfer and/or International student and was also invited to a different orientation. Do I still go to this one?

Yes! Your Academic Orientation will cover details on your program, which won’t be covered in the Transfer Student or International student events.

How do I get to York U Keele Campus?

Here is a helpful link on how to get to York U Keele Campus by car or public transit: https://maps.info.yorku.ca/transit-driving-directions/

If you are arriving by car, the closest parking lot is the Bennett Centre for Student Services parking garage.

Can I bring a friend/parent to orientation with me?

This session is all about you and making new friends! Due to limited space and seating, we request that only incoming AMPD students attend the AMPD Academic Orientation.

Parents are welcome to ask their questions at a York 101 Info Session taking place throughout the summer. Check here for an upcoming session: https://www.yorku.ca/orientation/summer-transition-events/#parentsandfamily
